Leader: Marcia Goode
Eight of us headed off to walk up Waitewaewae Peak which is a good 939 metre climb. The weather turned it on for us.
We met at Waikawa Reserve and walked up to the gate and followed the 4 wheel drive track to the road end, where we crossed the slip.
When we got to the Waikawa Stream - Panatewaewae Stream intersection there were 3 hunters and 5 pig dogs there. They had caught a very large pig and were very happy with themselves.
We crossed the Panatewaewae Stream which had quite a lot of water in it, so we had wet boots.
Once over the stream we were on our way. The track was in great condition. We had a couple of stops along the way and just enjoyed our surroundings. We had lunch at the top then wandered down. It was a 7 hour return trip and 17 km.
To end a great day we went to the Manakau market and had fresh fruit ice cream.
Those on the trip were:
David Williams, Glen Cattermole, Marcia Goode, Matt Freeland, Peter Davis, Viv Roberts, Yingjun Shelton, Rob
Currently there is no photo album for this trip.
