24-25 August 2019
Leader: Dave Cox
Five keen individuals headed up Marchant Ridge under-deterred by a brief flurry of sleet. After a cold lunchbreak we dropped into the dreaded Hells Gate before the final climb to Alpha Hut.
We just had time to collect a bit of wood and managed to get a second-rate fire going - better than nothing as it took the worst of the chill off the hut. Next morning dawned better and we enjoyed some nice views and a sunny morning tea stop on Omega. After a steep drop to the river we wandered down to lunch below the hidden hut. Then it was the last climb up the Puffer to the cars not long before dark. A good work-out with two longish days.
