12-13 October 2019
Leader: Owen Cox
Nine Parawais went into Roaring Stag hut for the weekend. A bit of a late start due to a hold up on the road. There is a bit more mud on the ridge over from the Mangatainoka to the Ruamahanga.
Plenty of people were there but we had planned on camping. We found tent sites around the hut and the bridge. Someone has cleared an area just south of the bridge on the riverbank. Looks like a chopper pad but not sure why you would need another one as the hut already has one just outside. Made a good site for a fire and seating to watch the evening come in.
On Sunday we went out via the lake. We dropped off the track to the Ruapae Stream forks then went up the stream until we were about half a km from the lake. We wandered across the terrace to the lake and spent a bit of time around the outlet. From there it was back to Ruapae Stream and then a short bush bash up the ridge to the track.
After that coffee in Eketahuna (yes there is reasonable coffee in Eketahuna) and then home.
Those on the trip were:
Owen Cox, Marian Cox, Elisabeth Hynes, Neville Grubner, Glenda Robb, Chris Keating, Chantal Heller, James Bester, Marcia Goode
