We had a good trip in to Kapakapanui hut via the Pukeatua track last weekend.

Initially we had a steep climb through a recently milled Pine forest followed by some offtrack work made more interesting by plenty of wind fall branches and a few trees. It was cold, with a southerly wind chilling us as we gained height. The welcoming hut has been recently refurbished by the DeerStalkers and is in great condition. We enjoyed the evening around a warm friendly fire. The following day we headed over the top of Kapakapanui and down to the cars.
