Leader: Sue Pate
This trip ran a couple of weeks previously in torrential rain, so when the weather forecast looked good for today, we ran it again.
11 of us set off on a perfect blue sky day from Anlaby Road in Nikau Valley. We turned off a 4-wheel drive track through farmland into a very nice kohekohe forest with beautiful ferns and nikau palms. After a couple of stream crossings, the track took us up to the tops where we broke out into open farmland.
We crossed a couple of paddocks to a trig station and had good views of Reikorangi and Hemi Matenga.
After a lunch stop back at the fenceline, we returned via a loop track and discovered there were many track options to choose from. Overall, an easy walk. We covered 7.5 km over 5 hours.
I'd never been here before and was very pleasantly surprised at what a lovely bush and walk this was and only 20 minutes from home.
Those on the trip were:
Bryan Wild, Chris Keating, Elisabeth Hynes, Glenda Robb, Jing Zhou, John Glover, Neville Grubner, Patrick Liss, Sue Pate, Tony Quayle, Jing Zhou's mother
Currently there is no photo album for this trip.
