Sunday 30 June 2024
Leader: Peter Davis
A few of us met up at the school carpark at 9am before driving over to Lower Hutt where we met up with the others at Te Whiti Park. We started walking just before 10am.
The track is shared for walkers, mountain bikers, runners and dog walkers (on leash).
It's a typical Wainuiomata mud and rock track with a gradual uphill to the top of the Hayward Eastern Hills. We had a morning tea break at the summit where we enjoyed the views of Wainuiomata and Lower Hutt.
After a quick break we then walked along the ridge, skipped the overgrown ECNZ firebreak, to the end of the track at the Pukeatua Bridge. We stopped to have lunch and then walked down on the main road back to the carpark.
Most of us stopped at the Groundup Café, Pāuatahanui before heading home.
Another good, easy day walk with the group, good weather, cold but some sunny patches.
Thanks, Peter, for organizing this.
