This interesting circuit took us, by way of some serious scrub-bashing, to Apiti Saddle. Saturday - Up the Apiti Track from the Ngamoko Road to the Ruahine Range and down to Leon Kinvig Hut. Then down the Pohangina River to Ngamoko Hut. Sunday - Up Ngamoko Creek to Apiti Saddle and up on to the ridgeline above. Then down to the Mangatewainui River and up to the track that leads onto the Apiti Track. Then back down the Apiti Track to the road end.

The Apiti Track follows an old road formation that was originally intended to cross Apiti Saddle to the western side of the Ruahines.
