Matariki Weekend 10-12 July
Kaweka Hot pools
Organiser:Owen Cox
Phone:021334037
Grade:Easy/Medium
Fare:tba

It's a long drive to the road end by the Mohaka River in Hawkes Bay. How much we do depends on the weather. If it is bad we will camp two nights next to the hot pools and do a day side trip. If it's fine we will spend one night at the pools and another at Middle Hill or Ballards, making it a loop trip. People will have the option of returning via the river track if they don't want to do the loop.
Note We have Friday as a holiday, giving us 3 full days.

Around Pauatahanui Inlet
Organiser:Geoff and Sigi Scrase
Phone:02108589801
Grade:Easy
Fare:$10

Pleasant day walking around the inlet - starting point to be determined on tides to ensure we can walk around Moorehouse point.
Meet at the school at 9.00 am to carpool.
Drive to the public carpark immediately north of the New World supermarket on Mana Esplanade, seaward side. This almost dead centre of the map shown below.
Walk along the esplanade to turn left on to Mana New Road then on the beach along the high tide mark to the bridge.
Follow the route shown on the “plotaroute.com” map shown in the link below.
We will probably reach Ground Up café at Pauatahanui village before lunch. Those who’d like to stop there for refreshments are welcome do so. Others, like Sigi and I, may prefer to take and eat a packed lunch sitting in the wildlife reserve, if it’s not too early for lunch. However, this may depend on access because the reserve suffered severe flooding recently and that included water entering the cottage! – it must now be raised further due to the damage sustained.
After lunch/break, head along the boardwalk around the inlet, observing wading birds like the resident spoonbills, plus stilts, kingfishers, plovers and herons.
After the jet ski launching bay, we’ll pass the picturesque boatsheds – may be worth a pause for good photos.
Follow the pleasant track round to Mana.
The total distance is 17 km
