Pourangaki Hut 10-11 November
A circuit in the Ruahine Range via Pourangaki and Kelly Knight Huts. Saturday - From the Titirangi road end, up the long track that goes up to the Whanahuia Range. North along the range over Mangahuia, Maungamahue and down the ridge to Pourangaki Hut. Sunday - all the way down the Pourangaki River passed Kelly Knight Hut and up Pari Stream to climb out back onto the track that we took the day before. Then back to the road end.
We saw some magnificant rimu trees
Looking towards Mts Ruapehu and Tongariro
The tarn looked like a nice spot for lunch
And it was just that!
Now for that hill (groan!)
The mist started coming in
The track down towards Pourangki hut
and there it is - a great hut and location!
We decided to walk out via the river...okay who wants to go first? (bags not!)
GUO was like a child with a new toy
There were some cool gorges to get through (or bash around)
There were also lots of brown rocks
Climbing out of the river to Kelly Knight hut
KK hut had some hunters in residence and what a mess they'd left!
We made it into Pari stream not long after the rain came
