Northern Ruahines Wellington Anniversary Weekend Extended 20-24 January

A circuit in the Northern Ruahines.
Friday - Up the Makaroro River to Barlow Hut.
Saturday - Up the Barlow Track and Colenso Spur Track to Te Atua Mahuru. Then down into the head of the stream to continue to Colenso Hut.
Sunday - We detoured down the Mangatera River a short distance for a scramble amongst the large limestone boulders. Then returning up river to Potae Creek and along the Potae - Mangatera River Track to Potae and along to Ruahine Corner Hut. That afternoon we went across the airstrip and on to Te Rakanuiokura (Black Hill) for views across the Mangaohane country and the Makirikiri Tarns.
Monday - Across to the main range and around past Aranga Hut and over Pohatuhaha and on to Parks Peak Hut.
Tuesday - Down the Pohatuhaha Range back to the Makaroro River.
