Patuna Chasm and Waiorongomai hut 9-10 February

Exploring Patuna Chasm and Waiorongomai hut

Heading across farm land to the chasm

There were lots of unnecessary ropes

Looking into the chasm

There was a wasp nest above this rock and only a few brave souls ran through here

Elisabeth climbing down the um domestic ladder

Grant descending

The chasm was beautiful

Moss, water, rocks - it had it all!

I found a new friend (I was just happy to have a friend really)

This was the only tricky bit to get through

There were even fossils in some of the rocks

GUO

We had a few little swims, nothing major

Louise

Connor

Nev

I've heard about trees clinging on for dear life...but really!

The colours were amazing

We had a deep swim at the end

Apparently the chasm has been a tourist attraction for over 200 years...This photo is taken in the year 2013

This is the relatives of the same group taken in 1902

This is one of the oldest known photos taken in 1809...note the old fashion clothing!

On the Sunday we walked to Waiorongomai hut. Not sure if that's a sun ray or a lightning bolt after Elisabeth?

Ropes, ropes and more ropes

Dragonfly with its lunch

Twas a nice stroll up the river

Waiorongomai hut

Lunching in the shade. Rob did some sketches

It was so hot, we went for a swim (or two)

Was a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday
