Haurangi Crossing 16-18 August

A very wet crossing
Friday, 16 August 2013

The weekend started with a Friday night walk into Mangatoetoe hut

Granddad was still tired the next morning

A great location

Granddad supervising the cleaning up

and then the rain started

Paddy

There was lots of ongaonga and we all got stung at some point

There were some fun river crossings in the rain

Like this one

A happy tramper

Queen Elisabeth

Tweedle dum and Tweedle dumer

Lunch and a brief respite from the rain at Kawakawa hut

Out of the river into the bush

Our residence for Saturday night

There had clearly been a few pigs around

Nothing like a fire to warm the spirits huh

Pistol eating dinner

Washpool hut followed our first 500mtr climb on Sunday

and then onto our second 500mtr climb (sigh!)

We finally spotted the sea

Badjelly

We finally made the four wheel drive track (I was hoping we'd be surprised by Elisabeth's lads waiting in four wheel drives, but it was not so)

It didn't seem that well used (perhaps Raymond and Thomas could not get the four wheel drives up the track to pick us up?)

An aerial view of the Pinnacles

The suns rays were a welcoming site

It even kinda cleared up (well kinda)
