Cow Creek Hut 12-13 October
Cow Creek hut in the Tararuas
Saturday, 12 October 2013
Kiriwhakapapa Road end was very busy which made us nervous (check those flys are packed)
The Pines...a nice way to start the trip
and into some stunning bush up to Blue Range hut
Even though it was a warm day, it was not a day for the tops, lots of snow and very cold winds (Mitre, Brockett and Table Ridge)
Looking toward Cattle Ridge
Unauthorised pointing from GUO
Close up of Table Ridge which is where I'd planned for the trip to come down
Our accommodation for the night
Phil bravely slept under a fly (it would rain this night)
Though better than being crammed into the 6 bunk hut with the remaining 8
Sunday morning and almost ready
To head down the Waingawa towards Mitre Flats hut
There were a few streams to cross
Native Clematis at Mitre Flats hut
Crossing the river after a long lunch in the sun
An then a climb to work off the beforementioned lunch
We got to the end of the Barra Track and walked the remaining 2kms to the road end
