Northern Kaimanawa's Labour Weekend 26-28 October
A great trip in the Northern Kaimanawa's
Saturday, 26 October 2013
Starting off the road end after the car shuffle
GUO and Sue waiting for the car shufflers
There were lots of mountain cabbage trees all in flower - just stunning
Nice view of the Kaweka's
The river flats below Oamaru hut
There was a hunting training party in residence
It was strange to see pumice everywhere
The was wind fall the entire trip
Camp for the first night after 26km of walking
Nothing like a fire to settle the nerves after a long days walking
Sunday was the climbing day
Finally breaking out onto the tops
Back into the bush for a short spell - loving this photo BTW!
Then into the claggy weather again
and safely back into the bush again
Camp the second night was on a cool little island in the middle of the river (P.S. that is one sexy green tent in the foreground!)
The club arsonist made a fire and we even saw blue ducks just metres away - how cool was that!
Cascades hut (GUO trying to be all young, hip and happening again sigh! peace, love and mung beans baby sorta thing)
They don't make stoves like this any more
We searched for the old Stanfields Whare site and found some remains
A very cool arty shot if I say so myself!
The tops we'd come over the day before
Lunch at the top of the hill on Monday
We found a great waterfall
