Peru: Amazon Jungle June-July
The third leg of the Peru trip, exploring the Amazon Jungle
Friday, 12 June 2015
We had over 3000 metres to drive down to the Amazon from Cusco along a dusty road
Luckily there were stops to stretch the legs along the way
And look at beautiful creatures like this little stunner
Righto back into the van with you
Macaw sharing some coconut
We did some river rafting which was fun
Some had a soaking under the waterfall
We got into a motorised boat at this stage and continued down the river
To Erica Lodge - our home for a few nights
The mosquito nets we had to tuck in each night to keep from being killed in our sleep
Time for a bit of a look round
We did lots of walks in the jungle
Spider Monkey (middle on lower branch)
Army Ants - nasty little fellows
Termite nest - we all ate some live ones (nom nom nom)
A spider on one of the night walks we did
This people is an 'Erotic Palm' - heaven knows why they call it that??
Jose was our guide - a great chap and very passionate about nature
This palm moves to get the light
These people do too, but a lot slower than the palm
Marian sailing through the trees
It ended with a 30m abseil
We went for a paddle on these
...I was rubbish and we spent a lot of time in the weeds
Their boat started to sink...let them drown I say!
Trying to get out of the mud
Keeping an eye on the river levels
We visited an animal rescue shelter - Caiman
Monkey, Anteater and Peccary
This little fella took a liking to Nev
That's true love right there!!
