A snowy weekend at Pohangina Base. After settling in on Saturday we drove up the Takapari Road as far as it was safe due to the heavy snow. Then we continued on foot while the snow continued to fall. Soon after we returned back to the cars. About 2.5 hours all up. Then we drove back to the warmth and comfort of the lodge. We enjoyed a wonderful pot luck buffet along with mulled wine and card games. Sunday morning we went on the No. 1 Line track. Then a few left for home while the remainder decided to do the Branch Road walkway in the afternoon.

Our home for the weekend
Before heading out for a walk there needs to be period of contemplating and head-scratching
Driving up Takapari Road in the snow
And then walking up Takapari Road in the snow
I think Owen is pointing towards Piripiri Biv
Some people took their vehicles further than ours, and some had more dramas
Susan hadn't been leatherwood-bashing before and once she tried it we couldn't hold her back
By the time we got back to the cars quite a lot more snow had fallen
Peter was very proud of how his VW handled the condition
Onesies time back at Base
Mulled wine makes things a little blurry
... and evokes the beast within
Another wonderful pot luck buffet
A very serious after dinner card game
Sunday morning on the No. 1 Line track provided an opportunity for a bit of tree-hugging
... but footprints continued into "here be dragons" leatherwood country beyond
For something quite different (no snow, no leatherwood) we did the Branch Road Walkway Sunday afternoon
Skull corner
At the top, having a break before heading back down again
