Southern Egmont and Syme Hut Queens Birthday Weekend 4-6 June
Saturday, 04 June 2016
It was a beautiful day for a climb up Fantoms Peak (L) 1966m
owned by the Egmont Alpine Club (EAC)
Julie looking like a pro with her crampons and ice axe
Sharks Tooth sticking up at the back
It was a reasonable climb
We spotted two climbers heading up the south route to the summit
You can see which way the wind has been blowing
After a bite to eat we headed down
...then on towards Lake Dive
Lake Dive (centre photo front of hill)
It was a lovely wee place (and a lovely place for a...nevermind!)
Mad Jelly and an amused Glenda
Relaxing at Lake Dive Hut
Looking back at Fanthams peak we'd climbed earlier in the day
Watch out Bad Jelly...Tony's about to stick you with his ice axe!!
The next day we walked back to the car for lunch and to drop the ice axes, crampon...and %^! Julie's tent!!
Then onto Waingongoro hut
Magnificent mountain cabbages
After dinner at Waingongoro Hut
The highest swing bring in the park - 100m drop...we all had to run across without holding on
Tony and his ingenious backpack...
The last day we did a loop up to Manganui Ski Lodge
Great views of the three central NI peaks
Snack time at the skifield kiosk
A bit more snow needed on the skifield
Smurf trying to sleep in the cage they use to transport goods to the ski lodge
The tunnel by the car park
Looking back at Waingongoro hut (we blamed Neville for the ugly towers)
Hut close up (for the short sighted one)
We visited Wilkies Pools before heading back to the hut for lunch and an hours walk back to the cars
