Leader: Paul Michl
The walk started with about 14 Parawais meeting at Paul's house in Waikanae. We did a food drop for the after-trip BBQ, organised a car share and headed off to the Huia Street end of the walk.
There were a few others doing the walk from the Tui Crescent end which was to be an up and down the same way and to give the drivers a lift back to the cars. The fitter group headed up the grassy slope from Huia street. The sun was on the rise but it was still cool and pleasant. We soon reached the bush and started the steep climb.
Fortunately it was dry under foot and there were plenty of tree branches to help us up along the way. The group split a little with the faster ones reaching the top about 10 minutes before the tail enders. There were plenty of fine views to keep them occupied (at least for a wee while). We then meandered along the top to a wonderful grassy clearing where we had a snack and a relax in the sunshine for a while. Kapiti island was in good view.
Back under the cover of the bush we carried on in a southerly direction. On the short part of the track near the farmland we enjoyed all the colour of the flowering fox gloves, and then down the much broader track toward the cars meeting with the other three, who took the shorter route along the way.
We all met again at Paul's house and had a relaxing afternoon with a shared BBQ and a croquet game with plenty of laughs. Thanks to all those who came along to make a great day.
