Parawai Tramping Club

Wairaka Point

Thursday 31 January 2019

Leader: Owen Cox

The trip was on a beautiful Thursday. Four of us went to Pukerua Bay by car and walked around the coast past Wairaka Point on the rocky beach. A half a kilometre south of the Point we stopped and I had a small swim with mask and snorkel. Tony joined us there.

As a change to walking back around the beach, we climbed out past the waterfall in the small stream that hits the coast south of Wairaka Point. Once we above the steep slopes we sidled north and picked some old farm tracks above the Point. We then followed the lip of the cliffs or escarpment north to a small reserve that backs onto houses on Raroa Place on the west side of Pukerua Bay. The views above the Point and along the cliffs were stunning. A well-formed footpath took us down the reserve to and after a short walk down the Rawhiti Road we hit the footpath back to the beach. An easy half day trip.

Those on the trip were:

Owen Cox, Marian Cox, Glenda Robb, Ian Bade, Tony Quayle
