16-17 December 2023
Leader: Kate
Easy weekend walk into the Oroua Valley to Alice Nash (Heritage) Memorial Lodge.
The original plan was to go Iron Gate Hut, but a series of slips had closed the hut. Instead we dropped our overnight packs at Alice Nash, donned our day packs, and did the 850m climb up to the top of Tunupo (1568m).
Retrieving our packs, we dropped down to the Oroua campsite by the river. That was a great night with a fire, and a mixed power drinking session inc sherry, rose, riesling, and home made baileys.
Sunday we headed back to the road end and drove down the road to explore the Limestone caves not far away. Lunch at Kimbolton ended a fun weekend away.
Those on the trip were:
Clive Kayser, David Williams, Graeme Richardson, Kate Livingston, Maryann Bugg, Paula Richardson, Yingjun Shelton
