11-12 February 2025
Leader: Patrick Liss
John and I set off from Raumati at the leisurely time of 9am on a Tuesday and started walking from Poads Road end about an hour later.

Our packs were a bit heavier than we would have liked, as following a DOC alert, we were carrying enough water for our needs for two days as there was believed to be none at the hut. (This turned out to be unfounded as the hut tanks were full!) We had a very pleasant walk up through the bush, thankful not to be out in the sun all day. Lots of birdsong had us trying to identify what birds they were.

Sometime later in the day we arrived at the hut in good shape and had an enjoyable evening with the other four occupants.

Wednesday dawned fine and we were away early for the short climb to Waiopehu and Twin Peak. It was then on to Gable End and down that ridge. For the first time in living memory it was 99% free from mud! A very pleasant day had us back at the carpark mid afternoon.

John commented that it was a long way to deliver one newsletter. (This trip was part of the club's Tararua Hut Challenge).
Those on the trip were:
