Leader: Brandon Holman
Eight of us met at Paekakariki at 9:00am and set off up the hill road. After about 50 meters there is a track on the left beside a stream, which took us to the Fly-by-wire site, and from there we took a path to the left which led us up to the Telcom tower with a great view of Paekakariki railyards.

From here we followed a vehicle track towards transmission gully, and walked south along the ridge, high above the expressway. When we reached the tall mast we turned right through a gate, and headed towards the sea, aiming for some old stockyards on a hill overlooking the sea. From there we walked down the spur towards Paekakariki, and turned south to meet up with the hill road via a gate. Crossing the hill road and walking some 20 meters down it, we picked up a path on the left which 5 minutes later caused us to join the Kohekohe Walk, which led us down, to the Escarpment Track.

We made the highpoint about 12:45pm and stopped for lunch along with other folk. Then we descended to Pukerua Bay, catching a bus back to Paekakariki about 3:00pm. The first part makes a good half-day walk, and when combined with the Escarpment track makes for a good day walk.
Those on the trip were:
