Lucas carrying out his tree-hugging duty

With my Triangle trip coming up fast I was keen to get in a fitness walk this weekend, but less keen on the scheduled Paraparaumu Scenic Reserve walk that was bound to be super slippery and that no one had signed up for anyway. So Saturday morning I texted a few regulars to see if there was any interest in a Hemi Matenga circuit. Although some were restrained by Father’s Day get togethers there was an instant quorum and we duly gathered at the Tui Crescent entrance at a very civilised 10am.

And his being-photographed-with-David duty

With a quick detour to the Waikanae urban hut for those who hadn’t already seen it, we set off up the trapline to the top of the ridge. Very pleasant, despite the top lookout being nothing more than a damp observatory for viewing the inside of a cloud. Descending via the Parata tourist track was surprisingly less slippery than we’d expected after the previous evening’s deluge.

The team, minus photographer Yingjun.

An unusual aspect of this walk was that for the first time I’m aware of, one of the participants was paid to accompany us. Lucas seemed to enjoy his ‘work’ but was gone as soon as he’d completed his contracted task of walking with Mum, Yingjun.

Thanks DW for the after match hospitality.

Those on the trip were:

David Williams, Kate Livingston, Owen Cox, Tony Quayle, Yingjun Shelton, Lucas Shelton

Currently there is no photo album for this trip.
