6-7 June 2020
Leader: Brian Solomon
Over the weekend of 6th and 7th of June 7 hardy trampers braved the elements and headed to Kime hut.
We assembled at the overnight car park at Otaki Forks meeting another party of 3 people heading to Kime. The weather forecast was not great so we wasted no time getting under way and wending our way to Fields hut where we had a hot drink and a bite to eat. As we ascended onto Table Top and beyond the air got progressively colder and more breezy. Glimpses of the Main range kept our interest although only Marcia and David had time and energy for photos.
Climbing over Hut Mound exposed us to really cold conditions but fortunately Kime hut was not far away and we arrived safe and sound. There were a few other trampers already at the hut so we claimed our bunks and settled in. The cloud was down and there were no views so after tea (preceded by Marcia's pesto on biscuits) it was off to bed at 7.30 for 12 hours kip. The following morning saw no improvement in the weather conditions so it was on with suitable clothing and back down the hill to Fields for a cuppa and on down to the car park. A good weekend.
Those on the trip were:
Owen Cox, Marian Cox, Jeff Franks, Kate Livingston, Brian Solomon, Marcia Goode
