Whareroa Farm Reserve

Sunday 21 June 2020

Leader: Kate Livingston

The Whareroa Farm Reserve is not a large park, however by challenging ourselves to completing two loops we managed to fill in a good chunk of the day, get some hill-work in and enjoy our local tracks.

We started uphill on Te Ara Ramaroa till it joined the Rocks Track. At the top we paused for a morning tea break before heading down the Rocks track till it met up with the Ti Kouka track. It was windy and for a while there was a damp mist that swirled in and then left.

At the bottom we made a brief diversion to have a look at the Whareroa urban hut – one of several bespoke mini-huts in Kapiti, each with its own story.

Lose yourself in the adventure of discovering hidden wild spaces and creations right on your doorstep with Urban Hut Club.

Then it was past the caravan at The Hub and up into the Dell for lunch in the sun. After lunch we headed up the East Ridge Track to Campbell Mill Rd and along to the Catchment View track which took us back downhill. We then picked up the Forest Loop track, with flowering kohekohe, before heading back to the car park.

Those on the trip were:

Marion Cox, Owen Cox, Elisabeth Hynes, Neville Grubner, Patrick Liss, Penny Currier, Sue Pate, Chris Keating, Glenda Robb, Eva Petro, Kate Livingston
