Maunganui - Maungakotukutuku Valley

Saturday 15 August 2020

Leader: Owen Cox

A easy day with three of us on it. Lovely sunny day but with cool air temperatures. Nice frost in the valley first thing.

We entered the bush after crossing the stream and wandered about briefly before heading straight up the ridge with the old fenceline on it. Steep at first by we picked up the track along the northern ridge. From here the track undulated up until we reached the stunted forest near the top. Glorious views and the Tararuas even had a dusting of snow. We headed over the top and lunched on one of the open area just south of the summit with view of the Kaikoura Ranges. We then headed down the well formed track along the spur back to the valley. Got to the car around 3 having spent five and half hours on the hill, not all of it walking.

Those on the trip were:

Owen Cox, Bryan Wild, Cameron
