19-20 December 2020
Leader: Elisabeth Hynes
On Saturday 19 December eight grown-up trampers and two kid trampers (that’s us) spent one night at Totara Flat campsite. On the way to Totara Flats we stopped off at Everest Café in Featherston (delicious food).
Once we arrived at the car park we grabbed our bags and then we were ready to set off. We walked for about two hours and stopped for lunch just over the bridge. This was also a good spot to get to the river and throw some rocks into the water, and to refill water bottles, to last until we reached the campsite.
We all set up our tents and formed the campfire. Some people decided to go for a walk to the hut, which was nearby, while the others stayed at the campsite. Later that night we lit the campfire, had dinner, roasted marshmallows, and had a nice time.
In the morning we all had our breakfasts and then everyone packed their tents and off we went back to the car park. After walking for about 2 hours we stopped for lunch, then we continued. Once we had finally arrived at the car park we loaded our bags in the cars then we went down to the river where we had a swim. After the swim, everyone headed to their cars and drove to the same café (Everest Café), and had some ice cream and drinks. After everyone had finished we all went home, and that was our trip to Totara Flats.
Highlights: the weather was on our side, David Williams making everyone laugh (I was told by David that every time I mentioned his name he’d give me $20), the campsite (it was a very nice space), the view/location, the campfire and finally the whole journey there and back.
Those on the trip were:
Ciara King, Darragh King, Niamh Dunne, David Williams, Elisabeth Hynes, Neville Grubner, Dave Cox, Susan Robertson, Rob Dey, Sue Sparkes
