Leader: Owen Cox
On a fine Thursday we did this 4 hour loop. It has about 400m of climbing and some roughish ground.
We met at the Paekakariki Deli around 9:30 and then walked over to the Hill Road and up the track along Waikakariki Stream. This opens up a short way up and we headed up a side gulley to emerge on the hill above the railway station. Plenty of great views.
The next stretch went along old farm roads and the access track along the gas pipeline to the high point (400m) above the Transmission Gully saddle. With Gully motorway being open this was noisier than the last time we were this way.
After lunch in the sun we headed down an open ridge to the top of the escarpment above Ames St. Here we headed south down a bush gully, pausing only to cut back some stinging nettle over the route, to the Hill Road by Clarks Reserve. There is a track across the valley here that joins up with the Kohekohe Loop walk. We followed this back to the Te Araroa escarpment track and then headed north, back to the Deli for coffee.
Those on the trip were:
Owen Cox, Patrick Liss, Sue Sparkes
