Nikau Valley To Maungakotukutuku Stream

Sunday 24 April 2022

Leader: Tony Quayle and Sue Pate

A beautiful day for a local walk. 11 of us went for a bit of an explore from Nikau Valley to find a route to the Maungakotukutuku Stream.

From the Maui Pomare Road track entrance we followed a marked track up to a high point above Paraparaumu Scenic Reserve and then down a trapping track No. R3 which dropped steeply into the Maungakotukutuku Stream.

After a snack we followed the stream for a pleasant half an hour to another trappers track No. R5 which we followed up a ridge and which came out very close to the trig station at the top. This was a great lunch spot with nice views. Then it was back down through the Reserve to Nikau Valley. A pleasant 6 hr/8km loop walk.

Those on the trip were:

Chantal Heller, Marian Cox, Mark Robertson, Matt Freeland, Nisa Promchot, Patrick Liss, Paul Michl, Rob Dey, Sue Pate, Tony Quayle, John Patterson
