Leader: Sue Pate
Tony and Owen navigated our route up from the Maungakotukutuku Valley road to Mt Maunganui where we stopped for lunch.
Then it was on along some lesser visible tracks and a bit of bush bashing to the site of the plane wreck. This was an Airspeed Oxford MkII lost in bad weather in 1941. The remains of the aircraft were not discovered until 1943 when the bodies of both pilots were recovered.
We spent some time looking over what was left of the plane wreck and then it was down the steepish fence line track back to the cars. Quite a long day - 81/2 hours and 15 km.
Those on the trip were:
Chris Keating, Glenda Robb, John Glover, Julie James, Mark Robertson, Nisa Promchot, Owen Cox, Rob Dey, Robyn Wilson, Sue Pate, Tony Quayle, Yingjun Shelton, Jing's Mum, Simon, Joanna, Peter and Jack Donovan
Currently there is no photo album for this trip.
