30-31 July 2022
Leader: John Glover
Twelve Parawais left Paraparaumu at 8 am for the long drive to the Sunrise Hut road-end.
After a half-hour stop in Dannevirke for coffee and eats we drove on, arriving at the road-end at 11:30 am. We walked to Triple-X Hut, stopping briefly, then headed up the very good track to Sunrise Hut, stopping about half way for a snack.
On arriving at the hut we had lunch, then many went on to Armstrong Saddle while others took in the views to the east, which were perfect.
After dinner that night some games - principally "Pass the Pigs" - were played, then, as the storm winds built up outside, we adjourned to our sleeping bags.
On Sunday morning a light covering of snow lay around the hut. As the morning progressed, the snow gradually increased. As we made our way down the track it continued snowing for the first 40 - 45 minutes. We stopped at Triple-X Hut for a snack, then headed for the cars. An hour later we were once again in a Dannevirke café for lunch.
Those on the trip were:
Elisabeth Hynes, Jing Zhou, John Glover, John Peterson, Marian Cox, Mark Robertson, Nisa Promchot, Owen Cox, Rob Dey, Robyn Wilson, Wei Wu, Yingjun Shelton
Currently there is no photo album for this trip.
