Parawai Tramping Club

City To Sea

Sunday 11 September 2022

Leader: Patrick Liss

The weather forecast looked promising and it turned out to be a stunning day in Wellington.

Four of us travelled by car and the remainder took the train and bus into the city, meeting up at the cenotaph around 9:00am.

Bowen Street Cemetery

From here we walked through the Bowen Street Cemetery and Botanical Gardens to the top of the Cable Car, then down past the university.

Our first stop was in Aro Street for coffee and refreshments before walking along the bushy town belt with some exposed ridge tops and hilly tracks.

We stopped for lunch just past the Wellington Harriers Club above Newtown. Then we climbed up the ridge to the southern end of Kingston to the Te Rauparaha Statue. This statue was carved from a massive stone and is a portrayal of Te Rauparaha.

We continued heading south, taking in the amazing views of Cook Strait and Owhiro Bay until we reached Island Bay where we caught a bus back to the railway station and returned home.

Those on the trip were:

Patrick Liss, Pam Glover, John Glover, Owen Cox, Marian Cox, Erica Treacher, Julie James, Sue Sparkes, Jen Perry, Rohan Hart, Lois Hart
