Mid King-McGregor 16-18 March

An anti-clockwise circuit through Middle King and McGregor Bivouac, back to Atiwhakatu Stream.
Friday, 16 March 2012

The bridge heading between Atiwhakatu hut and Mitre Flats hut

Starting up South Mitre stream, Mid King bound

And a big climb it was

Breaking out of the bush

Biv number 1: Mid King

Not that well used

Told you it was a big climb

Jumbo hut (centre right for the blind people)

Finally at the top

and oh the reward!

Peggys Peak and Mitre bathed in sunlight

Broken Arse (oops Axe) pinnacles

Dorset Ridge hut

The sunset took our breath away

Trying to get passed the Pinnacles before we lost the light

Biv number 2: McGregor after 12.5 hours - maybe that was what took our breath away

Glad we made the effort though, the next day was misty and very windy

Heading along Angle Knob, but not a day for a detour to look at the plane wreak on Shingle Slip Knob

Trying not to be blown off the mountain

Jumbo hut was a welcome site

Bit of track work required on Raingauge Spur

The weather bomb a few weeks back did some damage to the Atiwhakatu track

Moss on a tree - natural or not?

GPS track - 38.1kms
