Piripiri Biv 19-20 March

Saturday, 19 March 2016

Coming down over the farm land

Up Piripiri Creek we went

It was a loverly day and we saw a few deer on the way

The stream was a bit overgrown and gorgy on the way

But not very hard at all

Old fossils

on the subject of old fossils

Marian braving a small waterfall...the woman has no fear!

The stream was up a little owing to some rain Friday

GUO showing his 'walk on water' skills, while his wife half drowns

There was some beautiful bush

An old hut long gone (hmm wonder if we can bag on hut bagger?)

The only decent water fall climb, the chain helped

Scaling the waterfall

The orchids were in full bloom

Grovelling up past another cascade

Branching off toward the biv

Well marked

Followed by a steep 80m climb up a slip

Nice views back down the valley though

There she is...the elusive Piripiri Biv

We headed back down stream to camp

Setting up camp 400m below the forks

A tender moment

Sue packing up Sunday morning

We climbed the hill directly behind the camp. Looking down on the biv

Travel was good overall, with a bit of thick bush here and there

We had some good patches though, following and old track

We found an old tent, complete with sleeping gear inside. Didn't look like it had been used for a while

Following down the fence line

We joined the forks with the Pohangina track

And headed back to the car, pleased the weekend had been a lot easier than expected

GPS track - 14km
