Leader: Peter Davis
We set off from the Karapoti car park early in the morning, following the track through native bush and rugged terrain toward Whareroa Farm. The route offered a great mix of gentle climbs, a stream crossing, and open sections with stunning views over the valleys and coastline.
Track conditions were generally good, with a few dirt bike and four-wheel drive troops passing by that added a bit of adventure. The weather held up nicely; sunny but cool for most of the day, which made for comfortable walking conditions.
We stopped a few times along the way for snacks and photos, taking in the scenery and enjoying the peaceful bush environment. The final stretch into Whareroa Farm was a welcome sight after a long day on the trail.
Highlights: 1. Beautiful native bush and ridgeline views. 2. Quiet, remote sections of track. 3. A solid full-day hike with great variety.
Overall, this was a challenging, rewarding 26.5 km trek, taking around 7 hours including breaks. It is a great route for members looking for a long, scenic walk linking the Akatarawa and Whareroa Farm areas.
