Wellington Anniversary Monday 19 January 2026

Tony had planned a multiday trip in the Ruahine Range for Wellington Anniversary weekend whilst I had planned an easier trip camping at Otaki Forks before heading up to Kime Hut. Neither trip eventuated as the weather did not play ball, so Tony postponed his trip and we decided to do a day's walk to Table Top instead, combining our trampers into one group.

The weather was dull and overcast as we headed up to Field Hut where we stopped for a short break before carrying on to Table Top. We detoured off the track and headed up to Table Top Peak, bagging it for our Peaks and Rivers Challenge. We continued to the Penn Creek turnoff where we planned to have lunch. This was not a great idea as the rain started and it was a bit miserable! We headed back down to Field Hut for lunch! Then we had a nice walk back down to Otaki Forks.

It was pleasant days walk with good company, and we bagged a peak!
